Tooth decay often affects the biting surface of the teeth. Inlays and onlays are perfect solutions to restoring a tooth with decay or a fractured cusp without having to treat with a full-coverage crown. It’s a more conservative procedure to crowns in that more of the natural tooth is conserved – we make use of inlays and onlays whenever possible.
Onlays and inlays, similar to dental crowns, cover both the grooves and one or more of the cusps. We choose onlays over crowns when most of the tooth structure is sound, but the biting area has been lost to decay.
